George Ford, 26, and Jessica Portman, 24, have ended their long-term relationship

England rugby star George Ford has split from his stunning, fashion designer fiancée Jess Portman just seven months after getting engaged, MailOnline can reveal.

The couple parted last month, just weeks after business fashionista Jess supported her beau in Japan as England reached the World Cup final.

Now the couple are facing their own personal heartbreak with Jess, 24 moving out of the swanky home they shared in Leicester with their beloved pet dog Bailee and returning to live with her parents in Bath.

A source told MailOnline: ‘It’s very regrettable because they made a fantastic couple. Both are very private individuals and are focusing on coming to terms with what has happened. It’s very sad.’

England and Leicester Tigers fly-half George, 26 and Jess only got engaged last June and had plans to start a family as quickly as possible.

Since splitting, Jess has been spending part of her time in London overseeing her fashion business, Portman London UK, which specialises in boho-inspired designed clothing.

A spokesman for the pair said they returned from Japan’s rugby World Cup and considered their futures. Pictured: Ford and Jess celebrate their engagement together in June last year

She regularly posts dazzling pictures of herself in the company’s chic outfits to her 16,000 Instagram followers and also became a huge social media hit during last year’s rugby world as she chronicled her time in Japan.

Jess also posted pictures of herself during a recent trip to New York with friends, which was organised to help her get over the end of the relationship.

George initially met Jess six years ago through mutual friends while she was at Manchester University studying fashion.

It took a year before she finally agreed to go on a date with him and she has gone on to establish herself as one of the most popular and glamorous Wags in the England ruby camp.

The couple set up home in Leicester three years ago after Jess graduated and George had signed for Leicester Tigers.

He revealed in an interview last year: ‘She finished uni and I dropped the bombshell that I was moving to Leicester and did she want to come. She’s been brilliant and settled in really well.’

A friend of the couple said that they had taken the ‘regrettable’ decision to separate last month

George also credited Jess for helping to establish him as one of the leading ruby players in the English game.

‘You’ve got to live a normal life at home and it’s hugely important to get that right.

‘It can be pretty full-on week in week out at the club and when you’re going away playing games it’s nice to come home and be relaxed in a good environment when you can switch off every evening and watch some rubbish on TV. Simple things like that are important,’ he revealed.

Jess once described George as her best friend and revealed that she loved how persistent he was in winning her over, which helped them to develop a deep bond.

Rugby ace Ford, in action for England against France in Paris, is also fly half for Leicester Tigers

A spokesman for Ford told MailOnline: ‘We can confirm that George’s relationship with Jess is over. It ended amicably. They met when they were very young and things just ran their course. There’s no more drama to this, it’s not nice for either of them but things just came to an end.

‘They split last month. Both of them started thinking about their future after they returned from the Rugby World Cup.

‘George is coping fine. Both he and Jess are from very supportive families. He’s got the rugby to focus on and she’s got her fashion business. They are keeping themselves busy and moving on with their lives.’
